Malta Contemporary Art was founded in 2008 in Malta, as a geographically specific contemporary art project by artist and curator Mark Mangion.

Between 2008 - 2011 it established itself as the foremost forum for contemporary art in Malta, collaborating with over 100 artists and other professionals in over 20 exhibitions, projects and events including Simon Starling, Cyprien Gaillard, Spartacus Chetwynd, Douglas White, Jess Flood-Paddock & Haris Epaminonda.

Between 2011 - 2015, it established itself as a roving project entitled Parallel Borders presenting projects in Athens, Rome, Zurich, Graz, Paris, Brussels, London and Reykjavik.

In Spring 2017, MCA returns to Malta, opening with a brand new project space in Valletta and in 2018, also opening a new, larger purpose-built space.
Although MCA will continue to have a very international approach and outlook, we very much look forward to reconnecting with an ever growing Maltese public and dynamic network of artists, curators and others, working in Malta.
