CROSS-CURRENTS: CONTEMPORANEITY AND MALTESE ART
The recent publication Cross-Currents: Critical Essays on Maltese Art and Culture (Allied, 2008; edited by Raphael Vella) proposed different theoretical readings of specific topics related to art, architecture and culture in Malta. One of the 'currents' that runs through every contribution is the issue of 'contemporaneity': What does the word 'contemporary' mean in Maltese contemporary art and architecture? What 'time' do Maltese artists and architects inhabit? How does the global affect the local in Maltese art and culture? These questions will be discussed in a public Forum by all the essayists in Cross-Currents. Members of the public are encouraged to come and participate in the discussion.
Speakers: Professor Kenneth Wain, Professor Paul Clough, Ms Isabelle Borg, Dr Raphael Vella, Professor John Baldacchino, Mr. Peter Brincat.
Chair: Professor Peter Mayo
